The market in Oshawa is hot right now because for years Oshawa has been overlooked. When looking at other cities that make up the Durham Region such as Pickering, Ajax and Whitby there is a history of strong appreciation and housing starts.
Oshawa is skipped over and this trend continues east in Courtice and Bowmanville.
With the 407 East expansion and the the future expansion of Go Train service to Bowmanville, Oshawa is no longer being overlooked. People are also taking note that Oshawa is more than just the home of General Motors with large employers such as UOIT, Durham College and Hydro One in the city as well.
Oshawa is also the last place in the GTA where you can still find reasonably price real estate. Although it is becoming harder as homes have appreciated by 15% within the last year and properties are selling for over asking.
